Tonwell Tower Ripple Garden
Tonwell Tower is a stunning piece of 1960’s British Brutalist Architecture, having visited the site I believe it is important for the tower to feel grounded and connected to the landscape that it dominates.
The concept for the Ripple Garden, is a garden inspired by the birth of this new era for the tower and an imagined notion of the water being released from the tower, pooling at the base and rippling out into the surrounding land.
Design
Tonwell Tower is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture I have ever seen, however, when you stand at what will be the entrance, the tower looms over you and it feels a little overwhelming.
I believe that mirroring the diameter of the roof into the landscape will counterbalance this sensation and make the tower feel grounded in its surroundings.
