Public Planting Concept

Inspired by the natural beauty of Hollow Ponds in Walthamstow, and the plants that thrive naturally there.

3x multi-stem Betula pendula stand proudly along the central axis, circling the middle tree are 6 Cornus serica 'cardinal' , chosen for their winter colour will contrast beautifully with the white bark of the birch in winter, and blend nicely together when fully leaved in summer.

Filling out the scheme at mid-level are Ulex europaeus and Cytisus scoparius, sharing fine green leaf texture and bright yellow flowers in spring but with very different forms, the Cytisus scoparius has a whip like structure to its stems and the spiky barbed wire form of the Ulex europaeus contrast beautifully against each other.

Boulders and a tree log break up the texture of the Soleirolia soleirolii at the lower level, and give a nod to the ancient Quercus rober. Mounds of Hebe ‘Green Globe’ give some form to the ground.
